HDRC Surrey Team
A qualitative study exploring how Surrey residents on low incomes experience local employment and skills services. Conducted between September and December 2025 by Good Company Surrey and Surrey County Council, as part of the NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration, the research drew on in-depth interviews and focus groups with residents and employment advisors.
Key findings highlighted low awareness of available support, broadly negative experiences of Jobcentre Plus, and strong demand for personalised, relationship-based advice. Community-based services were seen as far more effective. The report makes six recommendations to strengthen service delivery, improve training access, and better connect residents with local employers.
