What are INSPIRE Public Involvement Panels?

Our Public Involvement Panels bring together Surrey residents with lived experience of health inequalities to work in partnership with researchers, councils, and local organisations. We run two panels, one in East Surrey and one in West Surrey, with groups meeting every other month. Their role is to ensure that research and programmes truly reflect community priorities.

What do the INSPIRE Panels do?

Panel members help shape how projects are developed and delivered, co-produce research, share insights, and guide decision-making so that outcomes meet real community needs.

Why it matters

Public involvement matters because it ensures decisions reflect real community needs, brings lived experience into research, and builds trust. When people are involved, outcomes are fairer, stronger, and more effective for everyone.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Who can join a panel?

The panel is open to the local community and residents. You can take part if you live, work or study in Surrey.

Do I need to know anything about research?

No. You don’t need any research experience at all. What matters most is your lived experience, your views, and your local knowledge. We’ll explain everything clearly and give you any support or training you may need.

What will I get for taking part?

As a thank you for your time, you will receive a voucher for each meeting you attend. We’ll also provide refreshments and reimburse travel costs (e.g. bus, train, mileage) for in-person meetings.

How often do panels meet?

Panels meet every two months. Each meeting lasts about 3 hours, usually from 11am to 2pm. Most sessions are held in person.

How many people are on the panel?

There are up to 12 panel members on each panel. This helps keep conversations comfortable, focused, and ensures everyone has time to speak.

What support will I get?

You will be supported throughout your time on the panel. We offer clear information about what to expect, training opportunities (if you want them), a named contact for any questions, and a friendly, welcoming environment where your contribution is valued.

Check out our INSPIRE Information Booklet for practical guidance on getting involved. The booklet explains what public involvement means, why it matters, and how you can take part as a panel member.
